Captain Brian at the helm and first mate Mat on a ¾ day Offshore charter today Kelp paddy fishing treated the anglers well today. The morning started off with a bang where they landed about 4 Dorado. After that it was a long day of looking with few fish willing to bite. They found the magic paddy in the last minute and fished hard into extra innings. Despite mass casualties we ended the day with a dozen Dorado and a dozen yellowtail. It was total chaos as we lost at least a dozen more fish to pulled hooks, busting off and tangles. Thanks Matthew for choosing Coletta Sport Fishing for your fishing adventure. They found a kelp later in the day that was loaded with dorado but only one wanted to bite. They also landed a nice yellowtail on another kelp. A pack of 3 marlin swam past the boat but we were unable to get a bite from them. Thanks Richard for choosing Coletta Sport Fishing for your fishing adventure. The second dorado ate a trolled feather and we also had a fish hit a cedar plug that did not stick. Overall a great day of fishing!

July Fishing Forecast For San Diego

Summer is finally here and with that the offshore fishing season is about to become very productive. As I said in last month’s newsletter the water temperatures will continue to be on the rise and there is a good supply of bait in our local banks. Together this will make for some outstanding coastal and offshore fishing.

The coastal fishing will continue to be good to excellent. More and more Yellowtail, Bonito and Barracuda will continue to move into our local waters along with a steady bite of Rockfish.

The Offshore fishing has already gotten off to an early start and will only continue to get better. More and more Yellow Fin, Blue Fin and Yellowtail will continue to migrate into our local banks in larger numbers, which will make for some outstanding offshore fishing very soon.

As I mentioned last month consider booking your charters early this season. I am already starting to hear the disappointment on the phone when angler’s call but wait too long to book their trips and we already have the dates they want booked.

San Diego Fishing Report For June 2017

The sea state in June was fantastic and once the sun came out it made for very favorable fishing conditions.   We only had to cancel 1 trip this this month.

The rock fishing remained very productive for the majority of our anglers. They caught an assortment of tasty Rock Fish, which made for excellent table fare. We have been catching more and more Bonito and Barracuda in our coastal waters as we moved into the summer months

The Yellowtail fishing locally was on the slow side but a few anglers did catch some quality Yellowtail ranging from 20lb to 30lb class fish. Many more Yellowtail have been seen than caught.   We also caught a handful of smaller grade Mako Shark’s this month weighing 40lbs to 60lbs. Mako Sharks are delicious to eat and one of my favorite’s right up there with swordfish!

Our offshore season started early this year. We have only run a handful of trips catching a smaller grade of Yellow Fin tuna for the lucky angler. More schools of Tuna have been seen than caught!

Thanks again to everyone for choosing Coletta Sport Fishing for your fishing adventure.

June 2017 Fishing Forecast For San Diego

June 2017 Forecast

June 2017 Forecast

The first day of summer is Tuesday, June 20th and with that the offshore fishing scene will only continue to get better. The water temperatures will continue to slowly get warmer and warmer for many months to come. This has been a long awaited time for many of our repeat offshore customers.

The Rock fishing will continue to be good to excellent with decreasing boat pressure due to many local anglers fishing offshore. This will give the coastal angler an added advantage of catching various Rockfish, Lingcod, Halibut, Calico Bass, Bonito, Barracuda and some quality Yellowtail.

The Offshore fishing has gotten off to an early start and will only get better each month. More and more Bluefin, Yellowfin and Yellowtail will continue to migrate into our local banks in larger numbers, which will make for some outstanding offshore fishing.
As I mentioned last month and say again this month, each year I hear the disappointment on the phone when anglers call but wait too long to book their trips and we already have the dates they want booked. Consider booking your trips earlier this year as our calendar is filling up for the 2017-fishing season.
